The Project

Youth-REC is a project whose mission is to address the need to involve youth, using creative and stimulating methods to give them a voice. Having found, through various analyses and studies, that the percentage of youth participation has fallen to too low levels, this project seeks to equip young people with different tools and skills so that they can express their current needs, frustrations and concerns. This will be carried out in a bottom-up process, always seeking the empowerment of youth through different resources, skills and tools that they will acquire throughout the project.

The three innovative methodologies used in this project are storytelling, graphic design and filmmaking. To achieve its objectives, innovative methods will be used, such as the recording of different films related to the problems of this population sector. The theme of these films, as well as the different options offered by the available media, will be chosen entirely by the youth participating in this project (target people). With this project, the aim is to empower youth through the use of innovative methods so that they can be aware of their different problems, as well as their possibilities, and show it to the rest of the world in different events and festivals.

Likewise, for the dissemination of the methodologies used throughout this project, as well as for its accessibility, a manual will be created for the implementation of activities using filmmaking, storytelling and graphic design. This manual will serve as a way of rooting youth in a civic society, in politics and in democracy.

Purpose and objectives:

Short-term objectives:

  • Improve the competencies of youth workers and youth organizations through project meetings and related trainings, which will generate an exchange of best practices among the different partners.
  • To improve connections between seven European youth organizations, establishing working relationships and generating collaboration among them.
  • Encourage young people to transition from frustration to constructive engagement in civic issues. They will participate in different workshops of the project, acquiring valuable skills in filmmaking and graphic design, as well as interpersonal skills related to collaboration and emotional intelligence. The creation of the different creative proposals, made entirely by the young people, will also be encouraged. In this phase, they will also acquire event planning, organization and promotion skills.
  • Connecting European youth from seven countries, understanding the problems that affect other young people, in order to promote empathy and solidarity.
  • To make visible and raise awareness, through campaigns, of the problems affecting European youth, such as discrimination and inequality.

Medium-term objectives:

  • Achieve that other youth associations use the project method in their activities with other young people.
  • Improve the quality and innovation of youth work, reaching out to other youth workers and organizations, as well as reaching out to other stakeholders at local film festivals.
  • To give more visibility to youth issues, promoting equality and non-discrimination.

Long-term objectives:

  • Continue to make the method known to other workers and international youth organizations.
  • Continue with the application of the method.
  • Achieve that youth campaigns become more and more important for the higher levels of governmental bodies.
