Engaging Youth trough filmmaking

The coordinator of Youth-REC project concluded the Italian local workshop pathway involving 30 disenfranchised young people from a locality near Palermo. Through a series of nine sessions, two youth workers from CEIPES ETS facilitated workshops on Storytelling, Filmmaking, and Graphic Design.

The journey began with storytelling techniques. Participants were encouraged to reflect on topics relevant to their civic environment, setting the stage for the narratives they would later explore in their films. Subsequently, the youth delved into the world of filmmaking. They learned the differences of the types of shots and angles, progressing to scriptwriting and scene recording using personal devices and tripods provided by CEIPES ETS. Leveraging online video editing tools like Clipchamp, the participants acquired skills to edit their recorded scenes. The workshop further expanded into Graphic Design, covering fundamentals and techniques. Participants actively engaged in creating a visual identity for their films, developing production logos, film posters, and social media content using free online platforms. Empowered with technical skills, the young individuals received guidance on promoting their messages effectively. They learned strategies for creating digital campaigns, ensuring their stories reached a wider audience and resonated with the community.

The pathway culminated in the delivery of final results by young participants. CEIPES ETS acknowledged their commitment and involvement with a certificate ceremony, recognizing their dedication to the workshop. The topics explored by the Italian participants ranged from gender-based violence to friendship, road safety, gambling, and love without borders.

In the coming spring, these empowered youth will have the opportunity to showcase their films at a local film festival. Not only will they witness their creations projected on the big screen, but the contest winner will also earn a chance to participate in the Youth REC International Film Festival in Thessaloniki, Greece that will be hosted by the Greek partner EDUACT.
